Afghan Visual Arts & History is a research collective of artists, art historians, curators and art world professionals working to consolidate a visual history of Afghanistan, inclusive of its minorities and diaspora. We came together after recognising a lack of obtainable information and long term initiatives regarding the historical and contemporary artistic practices originating in or related to Afghanistan.
Through gathering art histories, contextualising practices, and fostering a dialogue; we aim to establish critical resources that will aid us in understanding the past and guide the rising generation of artists and cultural practitioners both in and out of the country.
Our current focus is upon archival research, establishing an online index of artists of the past and present, and the publication of a zine. AVAH welcomes contributions from our Afghan colleagues. Please contact us if you would like to find out more.
